This Chamber Connect will be a panel discussion that focuses on the resilience and recovery of the sports and outdoor recreation industry. 
Our panelists will talk about the obstacles and the adaptations in their businesses, including:

About the Panelists:
Becky Leinweber Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreational Alliance (PPORA), Executive Director / Angler’s Covey, Owner
Becky Leinweber has served as PPORA’s executive director since 2017. PPORA's mission is to strengthen the outdoor recreation industry for the Pikes Peak region through leadership and collaboration resonates strongly with Becky, who finds the best part of the job is bringing passionate people together with different perspectives and experiences to work to create a better future for ourselves, our communities, and future generations through the outdoors.
Becky was recognized as a Woman of Worth from Visit Colorado Springs and was selected as the 2018 recipient of the 2018 Spirit of Tourism Award. PPORA was awarded the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Partner of the Year Award for the Southeast Region in 2020.
Becky also co-owns Angler’s Covey in Colorado Springs with her husband, David, where she instructs women’s fly fishing classes and camps and founded and co-leads Pikes Peak Women Anglers, a local fly fishing club. She is a member of Pikes Peak Trout Unlimited, is an instructor and guide for Casting for Recovery retreats for local survivors of breast cancer, and also guides for and supports Project Healing Waters, providing wounded military personnel with fly fishing experiences to aid in their healing.
As a Colorado native growing up with a dad in the National Park Service, Becky has been an outdoor enthusiast her entire life. Her pursuits include hiking, camping, backpacking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and fly fishing. But her greatest passion is helping others enjoy these experiences and find the same sense of awe and respect for the natural world that she has.
 
Micah RicePikes Peak APEX, Executive Director
Micah moved to from Georgia to Colorado Springs in 2009 where he joined USA Cycling to lead the National Events program.  As VP of National Events, Micah oversaw over 100 National Championship events, in addition to Olympic Trials and World Championship events. Following his tenure at USA Cycling, he joined OC Sport to oversee North American operations for Haute Route, the world’s most prestigious multi-day amateur cycling events. Drawing on his experience of managing world class events, Micah now channels his passion and knowledge to the clients of Sports Strategies. His hands-on experience is a vital part of the team’s work with cities and regions that want to identify their sports tourism assets and create legacy events that promote economic development. It is in this role to develop and deliver events, that he also serves as Executive Director of the Pikes Peak APEX, the largest mountain bike event on Colorado’s front range.  Micah believes outdoor destinations are some of our greatest resources, and he tries to find time each day to enjoy them. When he isn’t working, you can find Micah riding his bike or hiking with his dog, Cocoa. He also enjoys camping and skiing with his family.

David Leinweber - Angler’s Covey, Owner / PPORA, Founder & Chair
David lives and breathes the outdoors - both recreationally and professionally. He has worked as a sales associate, manager, buyer, and owner in outdoor retail industry for over 35 years. Companies he has worked for include; Mountain Miser, REI, Colorado Outdoor Sports, Chickenhead Mountain Sports, Gart Sports, and Grandwest Outfitters. For the last 20+ years he has managed and owned Angler’s Covey, a Colorado Springs specialty fly shop and learning center.
In 2015 David took on the new challenge as founder of the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance partnering with Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC and Visit Colorado Springs. As chairman, he is working to promote the value of the Outdoor Industry to the Pikes Peak community and bring together stakeholders to increase our outdoor amenities, create better access to recreational areas, and promote greater participation in outdoor activities.
David currently serves on the executive committee of the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office's Advisory Board and the Pikes Peak Chapter Trout Unlimited Board. He also has served on the American Fly Fishing Trade Association Board for 4 years from 2006 till 2010. Angler’s Covey is also a member of the Outdoor Industry Association and is an Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Outfitter and was honored to be selected as the national Orvis Outfitter of the Year 2012 and Fly Shop of the Year in 2019.
 
Jim Smith - Mountain Chalet, Owner
Jim Smith is the owner of Mountain Chalet, Colorado’s oldest specialty outdoor retailer, based in Colorado Springs and a proud member of Grassroots Outdoor Alliance. 
Pursuing his passion for outdoor retail, Jim and his wife Elaine purchased Mountain Chalet in 2015.  Previously, Jim was the VP of Strategic Development for Vail Resorts where he directed the evaluation of targeted ski resort acquisitions and strategic alliances, including financial and market feasibility, and synergy analysis.  Serving as the VP of Real Estate for Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, Jim executed resort and community planning, development, construction, and asset management and directed overall strategic development.  As VP of Development for Katell Properties, one of Los Angeles County’s largest development firms, Jim led the development and asset management activities for a real estate commercial portfolio of 600,000 SF and $140 million.  He is a board member for the Rocky Mountain Field Institute a nonprofit organization based in Colorado Springs, dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of public lands in Southern Colorado. 
Jim holds a BS in Accounting from Syracuse University, a MBA from Southern New Hampshire University, and a MRED from the University of Southern California.  When not in the shop, Jim enjoys telemark skiing, rock climbing, fly fishing, and trail running.

Jason Mezey - Routes Outfitter, Owner
A lover of people, passionate about family, and wondrously engaged with the outdoors and all that it is and offers. Jason is no stranger to entrepreneurial thinking, but is new to the Small Business world. Coming from the non-profit industry, he served as a Marketing Director within Compassion International and continues to serve as an Enterprise Analyst with Young Life in downtown Colorado Springs. Balancing the adventurous nature of bringing value to the growing outdoor community in COS through Routes Outfitter, and a passionate spirit for serving humanity through missional focus and compassion, Jason knows this one thing...the world is better when we love big and serve each other wherever able. Routes Outfitter exists to engage, enable, and enrich wellness in the outdoor lifestyle. Their vision is to be a local-business epicenter for outdoor riders, runners, and hikers within the southern Pikes Peak area, providing products, services, and engagement to steward the market further and wider in COS. When not pouring himself into work activities, you’ll typically find Jason outside riding, running, and hiking throughout the COS front range. You’ll also find him enjoying the sidelines at any one of his kids’ Soccer games or swim meets, or possibly paddle boarding with his wife, Kristin (Co-owner).
